About Jack Verran Design
Jack Verran is a garden and landscape designer based in Edinburgh, connecting people and place, creating thoughtful, site-responsive gardens across Scotland and the wider UK.
Jack’s interest in landscapes began early, working in gardens from his teens and influenced by a grandfather who was a passionate gardener and organic grower. That early connection to growing and tending spaces has stayed with him — he still keeps an allotment and spends as much time outdoors as possible, whether exploring mountain bothies, sea swimming or walking his rescue dog Layla.
Over the past 15 years, Jack has worked and consulted across gardens and landscapes in Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Scotland and British Columbia. Time spent guiding eco-tours through Canada’s coastal temperate rainforest, teaching the Natural Step sustainability framework, deepened his understanding of ecological systems and the way people connect emotionally and practically to the landscapes around them.
Formally trained in Landscape Architecture and a Chartered Horticulturist (MCI Hort), Jack combines ecological knowledge with practical delivery. He has led residential, commercial and public-realm projects, navigating consultations, planning, budgets and construction with clarity and care.
Jack is also a qualified UX designer, bringing a thoughtful, human centred approach to how landscapes are shaped and experienced. This blend of ecology, horticulture and behavioural design thinking informs gardens and landscapes that feel intuitive, resilient and closely connected to their setting. Jack works with private clients, architects and developers across Edinburgh and the Lothians, Scotland and the UK. If you are considering a garden project, the studio would be happy to discuss your ideas
